Sinking Into The Blue

Farewell to the last of the UDM, Sir Patrick McLoughlin. The Conservative Party lost its overall majority, so the Chairman had to resign. Seven months after the event. The Leader, however, has not had to resign. Not even seven months after the event.

What does Brandon Lewis propose to do about a party with a membership about the size of the population of Lowestoft, but with a far, far higher age profile, and with fewer activists than the Lib Dems? Emulate Jeremy Corbyn how, exactly? By adopting his policies, which are the basis of his appeal? Why not? After all, a recent survey showed that the opinions of Conservative Party members already bore no resemblance to the policies of their party.

Or to mainstream public opinion, come to that. At last, the old canard can be slaughtered, that there is a majority in this country in favour of capital punishment. That such has turned out to be the case within the Conservative Party has given the media the excuse to point out that it has not been so in the population at large in at least 20 years, and that it will never be so again.

  2. So much for a Cabinet on women and ethnic minorities. That was supposed to be the point of this reshuffle, so where are they?
